    <title type="text">STRIDES FOR STROKE WALK, Saturday, October 22, 2011</title>
    <summary type="html">Come on out and support the Walk on Saturday,&amp;nbsp;October 22nd! All are welcome to participate. Raising funds is optional. 

Of course, this walk is very dear to my heart because on&amp;nbsp;December 23, 2010,&amp;nbsp;I suffered a stroke on the right side of my brain. As a 40 year old male, I think it is important to get the word out in the community of responding quickly and don't ignore any warning signs! I consider myself to be very blessed because of my quick healing and recovery. The staff at Baptist&amp;nbsp;East were absolutely incredible and I will forever feel indebted to them all. My life has changed now. I am a nonsmoker!&amp;nbsp;I don't seem to be running around all of the time anymore. I lead a balanced life between work and play. I am more relaxed. 

The Walk will be held at Brown Patk (behind Baptist East Hospital).

SOMETHING   	WE ALL NEED TO KNOW-- IS IT A STROKE?

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.   	Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The victim may suffer   	brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.  	

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple   	questions:

1) Ask the individual to SMILE.
2) Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
3)Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE.

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately   	and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify   	facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the   	general public to learn the three questions.

Reviewing a recent book by Illice Glink about the changing world of real estate, Singletary offers the following quote from Glinks' book:
&amp;ldquo;For decades, the real estate industry has operated under the principle that the less information buyers and sellers have, the better it is for agents, lenders, title companies, and all the other folks who eat from the trough.&amp;quot;
